Awarded Supreme Champion at the 2005 World Cheese Awards.
The awards were held on Thursday 10th March 2005 at the Pillar Hall at Olympia where over 1800 cheese from around the world were judged by an army of over 100 independent judges. The cheeses were judged in classes and awarded medals, based on the points awarded by the team of 4 judges. The 100+ Gold award winners were judged again by another team of 4 judges, before the 12 finalist cheeses were decided. The fianal 12 cheeses were then put before the Supreme Judging Panel where they were individually marked and the overall winner was decided. The Le Premier Cru Gruyere scored a massive 116 points out of a possible 120. An outstanding achievement, for an outstanding cheese.
Made by the Von Muhlenen family in Fribourg, Switzerland, this cheese has a round nutty flavour with a slight crunchiness in its otherwise smooth texture. The flavour develops and lingers long after the cheese has been eaten.
This cheese is a must for cheese boards, and is also a great ingredient in cooking.
